HR LICENCE IN NSW
The HR licence Sydney class is one of the most popular in Australia, as it allows you to drive a wide range of heavy vehicles. You will need to hold a HR licence NSW if you wish to be a heavy general freight delivery driver, coach/bus driver, furniture removalist, tow truck driver, refrigerated transport driver and more. HR vehicles licence NSW include the following:
- Trucks and buses with a GVM more than eight tonnes, and three or more axles
- Any towed trailer must not weigh more than nine tonnes GVM
- Bendy buses. These vehicles are articulated, but they are treated as rigid vehicles.
REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN HR LICENCE
In order to apply for your HR licence NSW, you must satisfy the following criteria:
- You must have held a class C licence for an equivalent of two years or more. Learner licence is not included, but time spent holding a P1 licence can be considered. Note that you cannot practice to drive an HR vehicle or upgrade to an HR licence NSW until you hold a P2 or full class C licence.
- Pass the RMS HR knowledge test
- Pass the RMS eyesight test
Once you have met the three simple criteria listed above, you are ready to commence Heavy Rigid training with GRU Driving School. Our courses are RMS accredited, and we are your one stop shop for both training and assessment. We service the greater Sydney region including suburbs such as Lurnea, Casula, Glenfield, Macquarie Links, Hoxton Park, Horningsea Park and further afield. Our main training facility and offices are in Prestons, NSW.

OUR HEAVY RIGID TRAINING COURSE
Our training courses is intensive, aiming to cover 15 key criteria during a one-on-one training session. One of our friendly instructors will assist you in gaining confidence behind the wheel of large, heavy vehicles. Safety is the cornerstone of our training, and we aim to ensure that every student leaves with a complete understanding of how to handle a HR vehicle safely in a variety of conditions. We will take you through the fundamental requirements for driving HR vehicles, as well as show you some defensive driving practices that will keep both yourself and the public safe on the roads. We operate Heavy Rigid training courses 7 days a week, and we can be flexible to accommodate your schedule. Every one of our instructors speaks Hindi Punjabi, Sri Lankan and English, and our courses are tailored to the needs of the Indian community.
Courses consist of a combination of pre-drive theory and driver training. Once our instructors feel you have gained sufficient competency behind the wheel, you can apply for assessment. During assessment your driving skills will be observed by a licensed assessor. Upon passing, you will be eligible to obtain your HR licence NSW from the RMS.
