LR – LIGHT RIGID TRUCK LICENCE

Light Rigid vehicles include small trucks with a GVM up to 8 tonnes. This licence class also applies to buses seating more than 12 adults with a GVM up to 8 tonnes. GRU Driving School offer a one-day intensive training session that will enable you to obtain your LR licence.

Those who wish to drive semi-trailers will need to hold a Heavy Combination licence. With a HC licence you can drive vehicles including prime movers, floats, low loaders, truck and dogs, pig trailers and more. The HC course teaches fundamental skills required during the operation of heavy vehicles equipped with trailers, and we also teach vital fastening skills. Our training sessions are one-on-one, and we operate 7 days a week.

Medium Rigid vehicles include any rigid motor vehicle with a GVM of more than 8 tonnes, and any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM. If you wish to work as a bus driver, courier or medium haulage driver you will need to hold a MR licence. GRU Driving School can provide the comprehensive training and assessment you require in order to obtain your MR licence.

Multi Combination vehicles include road trains, B-Doubles and any trucks carrying more than one trailer. You are required to complete a Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment, and GRU Driving School is an approved provider of this qualification. Our course will improve your skills behind the wheel whilst also teaching safety and defensive driving skills. We provide both training and assessment, with a team of qualified professionals guiding you along the way.

The Heavy Rigid licence is one of the most popular in Australia, as it allows you to drive heavy general freight vehicles in addition to coaches, removalist trucks, tow trucks, refrigerated transport and more. HR vehicles have a GVM of more than 8 tonnes, and three or more axles. Any towed trailer must not weigh more than nine tonnes GVM. GRU Driving School offers an intensive, safety focussed training course that will teach you the crucial skills needed to stay safe on the roads. We also include a component on fastening, teaching you how to secure your load.
